Over the last week I’ve been lucky enough to spend my time here at Manchester marketing agency, Delineo, as part of my school’s compulsory work experience placement for year 10 students. I came to Delineo for a number of reasons; it was recommended to me by my Grandad who luckily for me has connections with the agency, he said “I’d find it interesting”… however, I’m usually very sceptical when he says things like that to me, but for once he was right!
I had a vague idea of what marketing was about, but I didn’t know the different areas of marketing or what to expect when first coming to this marketing agency. As I’m writing this, it is my last day of work experience and I’m rather pleased to say I feel that I am more informed about how a marketing agency works. I have done multiple things throughout my placement: from getting hands-on experience with clients, to assembling client documentation, to simply sitting with designers whilst they complete a job, to researching a contact database which will be used for future advertising campaigns – needless to say everything I have done has increased my understanding of how an agency like Delineo operates and how it actually helps its clients.
I’ve discussed a campaign that is due to be launched in the near future with Nick Melvin and how I could help with handing out and collecting surveys to my peers and family – surveys are used to gain insight on a particular market, which will be used to help the development of an idea for a campaign. I’d like to thank everybody at the agency for being so approachable and making me feel so welcome in the office, as well as giving up their time to set out some jobs/tasks for me to do. (It’s not often you hear a teenager say thank you for JOBS is it!)
To sum up, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Delineo experiencing the wide range of opportunities that the world of marketing has to offer, I’d also like to say a special thanks to Simon Callan for organising my 7-day placement. All the best to everyone at Delineo!
